CASSONE, Felice (1815–1854). *Medico-Pharmaceutical Flora*. Turin: Giuseppe Cassone, 1847–1852. First edition of one of the most important Italian medico-pharmaceutical floras of the nineteenth century, illustrated with 600 hand-finished chromolithographic plates. The result of an ambitious publishing project spanning five years, the work describes hundreds of plant species, detailing their botanical classification, active constituents, medicinal uses and pharmaceutical applications, and constitutes one of the most comprehensive Italian compendia of pharmaceutical botany of the nineteenth century. 6 vols., 8vo (230 × 148 mm). Each volume illustrated with 100 hand-coloured lithographic plates, making a total of 598 plates (out of 600; plates 156 and 165 are missing; plate 500 bound after plate 560); text leaves uncut (foxing). Contemporary half vellum, spines with gilt titles and decoration on labels. (6)
