Description
[POLITICAL ECONOMY]. Classical Italian writers on political economy. Milan: Destefanis, 1803–1805 [AND:] Imperial Royal Printing House, 1816. A monumental collection conceived in the early nineteenth century to bring together in a single series the principal works of Italian political economy from the Middle Ages to the Enlightenment. The collection includes writings by many of the foremost Italian economists, amongst them Antonio Genovesi (1713–1769), Ferdinando Galiani (1728–1787), Cesare Beccaria (1738–1794), Pietro Verri (1728–1797), Gaetano Filangieri (1753–1788), and numerous other authors who contributed to the development of European economic thought. 45 (of 50) volumes, 8vo (225 × 145 mm). Comprising the ‘Parte antica’ (1803–1804), ‘Parte moderna’ (1803–1805), and the ‘Supplemento’ with indexes; volumes 2, 7, 15, 24 and 28 are missing. Contemporary half-leather over marbled paper boards, spines decorated in gilt, with gilt-lettered labels (defects and losses). The lot has not been collated; defects to be examined. (45)
