Description
[DECORATED VELLUM DOCUMENTS]. Lot of two elegantly decorated official documents on vellum. Ferrara, 1700 and the 18th century.
An interesting lot comprising two official documents on vellum relating to the Este administration in the State of Ferrara. The first is a certificate of service issued to the Bresciani brothers, who were employed at the court of Cardinal Fulvio Astalli, then residing in the Castello di Ferrara, dated 6 April 1700. The second is a rare, unused official form intended for the appointment of officials in the territories of Ferrara, adorned with an elegant illuminated coat of arms of the Este Dukes of Modena and Reggio, executed in tempera and gold, and already signed by Commissioner Marcantonio Gavardi and Chancellor Felice Consiglieri, providing an interesting record of contemporary administrative practice.
First document: 240 × 325 mm, minor marginal losses. Second document: 305 × 405 mm, richly decorated in tempera and gold. (2)
