Description
BEHAM, Hans Sebald (1500–1550). Coat of Arms with an Eagle. 1543. A fine small-format engraving by Hans Sebald Beham depicting a coat of arms featuring an eagle displayed, surmounted by a crowned helmet with a crest comprising a large feather and ibex horns, set within a dense ornamental arrangement of foliage and scrollwork. Above, a banner bears the motto WER MICH WILL HON - DER NEM MICH ON ; monogrammed HSB and dated 1543. A particularly representative example of Beham’s small-scale graphic work, for which he was renowned as one of the leading German Kleinmeister, or Little Masters. Engraving on laid paper, approximately 72 × 50 mm to the platemark. (1)
