A rare eighteenth-century edition of Charles Le Brun’s celebrated treatise on the representation of human passions. As First Painter to Louis XIV and director of the Académie Royale de Peinture et de Sculpture, Le Brun developed his theories from the lectures he delivered at the Paris Academy. This edition, published by A. Suntach, is illustrated with plates engraved by J. Bonatti, P. Zancon, A. Zecchin and G. Suntach, bearing witness to the widespread European reception of Le Brun’s influential artistic theories.
