Description
[LIGURIA] CHAFRION, Giuseppe. Liguria, or the State of the Republic of Genoa, together with other neighbouring states. Rome: Domenico De Rossi, 1697.
Map of Liguria from the *Mercurio Geografico*, the most important cartographic collection published by the Roman publisher Domenico De Rossi between the second half of the seventeenth century and the early decades of the eighteenth century. The map was engraved by Antonio Barbey based on the surveys carried out by the mathematician and military engineer Giuseppe Chafrion, who served the Spanish monarchy and was responsible for one of the most accurate contemporary depictions of Liguria and the surrounding territories.
Two unjoined engraved sheets (500 × 715 mm each), intended to form a single large map. Engraved by Antonio Barbey and published by Domenico De Rossi, with the authors’ names engraved on the plates and the stamp of the Regia Calcografia di Roma (foxing). (2)
