Description
[PEKING-PARIS]. Commemorative menu for the Peking-Paris motor race, bearing the autograph signatures of Prince Scipione Borghese and Luigi Barzini. Berlin, [August] 1907.
A rare piece of memorabilia relating to the historic 1907 Peking–Paris motor race, the first major intercontinental motor race, won by Prince Scipione Borghese, with Luigi Barzini as his correspondent and travelling companion. The menu, prepared for a luncheon with musical accompaniment at the Unione Cooperativa di Milano A.G. restaurant in Berlin, bears on the reverse the pencil signatures of the two Italian protagonists, most likely added during celebrations marking their passage through the German capital, just a few days before their triumphant arrival in Paris on 10 August 1907, an achievement that firmly established the international prestige of Italian motoring.
Printed folding menu (105 × 80 mm), listing the courses and musical programme; autograph signatures in pencil by Scipione Borghese and Luigi Barzini on the reverse. In good condition. (1)
