Description
[CAMPIGLI – EDITORIAL PROOF] DE GRADA, Raffaele (1916–2010). Campigli. Rome: Il Collezionista editore, [1971].
A fascinating working proof for a planned, but never published, new edition of the monograph on Massimo Campigli issued by Il Collezionista in 1969, one of the principal studies devoted to the artist and still regularly cited in the literature on his work. This copy offers a rare insight into the preparation of the planned 1971 edition: text and illustrations from the original publication have been cut out and pasted onto layout sheets, extensively annotated with corrections, handwritten instructions, pagination and typographical directions for the revised design. Numerous annotations specify the intended positioning of illustrations and alterations to the page layout, providing an unusual material record of an editorial project that remained at the preparatory stage.
Working proof of the volume, folio () 152 leaves with handwritten pagination, arranged in loose quires, with pasted text and photographic reproductions throughout and extensive annotations in pencil and ink. Housed in a cardboard slipcase (minor defects). [IN LOT WITH:] DE GRADA, Raffaele. Campigli. Rome: Il Collezionista, 1969. Folio, in the publisher’s wrappers. (2)
