Description
[MURANO – CAPPELLIN, ZECCHIN, SCARPA]. A collection of approximately twenty original photographs documenting lighting designs produced by M.V.M. Cappellin C., Murano, c.1925–1930.
An interesting collection of original photographs produced as promotional material for M.V.M. Cappellin e C., depicting elegant interiors furnished with the celebrated chandeliers from the Murano glassworks. The photographs document the firm’s activities during the period when it was based in the historic Palazzo Da Mula in Murano. Founded in 1925 by Giacomo Cappellin, M.V.M. was one of the leading forces in the revival of twentieth-century Murano glass. Its artistic direction was initially entrusted to Vittorio Zecchin, who advocated a return to the formal purity of Renaissance Venetian glass, and subsequently to the young Carlo Scarpa, who introduced new experiments in colour and composition. The chandeliers depicted in these photographs most likely date from this transitional phase between two of the leading figures in Italian design. All the photographs bear the original stamp of M.V.M. Cappellin e C., confirming their provenance from the company and their documentary value.
Original photographs (180 × 245 mm), mounted on contemporary card except for three, all bearing the stamp of M.V.M. Cappellin e C. – Murano. (1)
