Description
DENISE BONVALLET-PHILIPPON (1906-1994) "Notre Dame d'Arcachon", Gouache on paper, authenticated on the back by her son, 37 x 25 cm, framed 47.5 x 35.5 cm provenance: artist's family. Painter who studied in Amiens and at the Beaux Arts in Paris. Pupil of Lucien Simon. From 1954, her works can be found alongside those of Elisabeth Calcagni at the Salon des Artistes indépendants bordelais and at the SEPTEMVIR exhibition on a regular basis. She exhibited little despite her undeniable talent. In 2020, a tribute was paid to her with female artists such as Mildred Bendall, Renée Seilhan and Paulette Expert, at the "Bordeaux Artists of the Last Century" exhibition at Château Lescombes in Eysines, where Charrazac, Carrère and Marty were also on show. Her subjects include self-portraits, portraits, bouquets, still lifes and the sites of Bordeaux. Her work can be seen in museums in Amiens and Bordeaux.
