Jean LASCOUMES (1937), Bordeaux, view of the port, watercolour, SBD 30x48 cm - 46x64 cm with frame. A native of Bordeaux, or Béarn, nourished by the Gironde, the Gaves, the Landes, the ponds and the Arcachon basin, Jean LASCOUMES is a painter, sculptor, engraver... and jazzman. Jean LASCOUMES was born in 1937 in Lisieux, Calvados. He studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Bordeaux (Gaston MARTY's studio) and then in Paris (U.F.R. d'Arts Plastiques de ParisI). During his time in Paris, he worked with CÉSAR and Etienne MARTIN. Alongside his studies at the Beaux-Arts, he also studied at university. Began teaching in 1959. Professor at the Beaux-Arts de Bordeaux, from 1975 to 2002; taught at the faculty of Bordeaux III, from 1981 to 2000. A prolific and charismatic artist, Jean LASCOUMES is a pillar of the contemporary Bordeaux School.
