PIERRE-RENÉ RODES (1896-1971), "Les parasols" Bassin d'Arcachon, gouache, SBG and dated 1959, 30x51cm on view.
He began his career as a literature teacher in Périgueux in 1921. In the 1930s, René Rodes regularly exhibited his paintings and drawings in the Dordogne and took part in the Salon des Indépendants Bordelais (1931 / 32 and 1941 to 44). In 1939, he moved to Bordeaux In 1947, he was invited to become a member of the Atelier, where he exhibited regularly until 1965 In 1954, he was awarded 1st prize in an exhibition devoted to the Port of Bordeaux at the Bordeaux Fine Arts Gallery. From 1948 to 1954, he attended Saturday afternoon classes at the École des Beaux-Arts in Bordeaux, where his teachers included Robert Charazac and Pierre-Albert Bégaud. They settled regularly in Bidarray, where they painted together to such an extent that in 1955 the press referred to it as the "Bidarray School", and his artistic activity intensified, with a growing number of exhibitions in Aquitaine (Périgueux, Bayonne, Bidarray, Arcachon, Marmande, Soulac, etc.).
