Description
IRRIERA, Roger Jouaneau dit (Bordeaux 1894 - Aix en Provence 1957), Algérie tourism poster, 1924, canvas TBE, 78x160cm, Irriera was a painter, engraver, illustrator and caricaturist. Official painter of the Army between 1945 and 1951 in Baden Baden. He took part in the 2 world wars 14/18 and 39/45 and brought back a large number of war notebooks and sketches which can be found in the Musée de l'Armée. He went on a mission to the Middle East in 1920 and stayed in Algeria in 1924, where he contributed to the newspaper "L'écho d'Alger", producing several posters to promote Algerian tourism. He drew caricatures and beautiful realistic watercolours that illustrated the book "Ceux d'Algérie".
