Description
Léon JULLIOT de la MORANDIÈRE (1885-1968), Lesparre :L'Île d'amour (Médoc), lot of 2 pastels, monogrammed LM, located and dated on the back, 50 X 32cm, provenance: artist's estate.
Léon Julliot de La Morandière was a great friend of FOUJITA, whom he met in 1933 when he was director of the Maison franco-japonaise. The two men remained close friends after their return to France, exchanging drawings, letters and cards.
De la Morandière always painted during his trips to Algeria and Smyrna at the beginning of the 20th century, and many of his pastels are to be found in our region, where he liked to take his holidays (Biarritz, Arcachon, Lesparre and the Ile d'amour, Pauillac).
