DENISE AROKAS (1932) Lot of 2 fashion drawings in ink and watercolour on paper, provenance AROKAS sale in Bordeaux March 2015 (as is), 48x33cm / 50x65cm. One of the last muses and models of the painter Henri MATISSE, for whom she was first a lady-in-waiting. The master painted several portraits of her, from which she separated in 2002. She became a model through contact with the Parisian world: under the name Rebecca she worked for Balenciaga, Jean Patou and Courrèges. With Matisse, she drew nude sketches, watercolours and charcoals; she drew a lot, especially fashion drawings, some of which will be exhibited in 2018 at the Centre Culturel des Carmes in Langon, the town where she recently died; an auction was also held in Bordeaux in 2015.
