It is known that Louis XVI sent Beaumarchais to London, to the Chevalier d’Eon, to retrieve the writings and instructions that Louis XV had sent him.
The Chevalier d’Eon demanded sums of money in exchange for not publishing them. An agreement was reached, granting the Chevalier d’Eon a pension in return for his silence.
