This work is a sort of travel journal of Verlaine’s trip to Holland in 1892, when he was invited by artist friends to give lectures on Symbolism, the Roman School, and his own life as an artist. He was staying with the painter Ph. Zilcken, who painted the portrait that appears as the frontispiece to the volume.
Fifteen Days in Holland contains three previously unpublished poems by Verlaine: ‘To Mlle Renée Zilcken’, ‘To my friends over there’ and ‘Rotterdam’.
