All published from the manuscripts of the King’s Library, and accompanied by a glossary. In Paris. From the Royal Press, 1761. In folio. Full marbled sheepskin binding. Ribbed spine, decorated with gilt metalwork and fleurons. Coat of arms on the spine, in the lower panel. Small losses at the top and bottom. A 8 cm section of the jaw is broken. A worn copy. XXVII pp., 558 pp., CLXXXIII pp. for the glossary. First edition based on a manuscript by Joinville acquired by King Louis XV, and originating from the library seized in Brussels by Maurice of Saxony. It presents Joinville’s original text with a minimum of alterations. The language has retained all its naivety. This edition, printed on laid paper, is illustrated with a floral ornament on the title page, engraved by Lemire; three vignettes by Eisen and Gravelot; three end-piece engravings by Gravelot; engraved by Lemire and Sornique, three engraved letters and two fold-out maps by d’Anville.
