The set is complete with all 16 hand-coloured lithographs, printed separately from the text. ‎The author, the future General Joachim Ambert (1804–1890), was the son of Imperial General Jean-Jacques Ambert (1766–1852), and was then serving as a training lieutenant at the Saumur Cavalry School.
