Preface by Mr Waldeck-Rousseau, Senator and former Minister of the Interior Paris, Firmin Didot, 1896. Fort in-4°. Navy blue half-shagreen binding. Smooth spine decorated with republican symbols: the sword and scales of Justice, oak leaves and fasces, the Tablets of the Law, and the seal of the Prefecture of Police, all set between triple gilt bands representing the spine’s ribs. Interior with scattered foxing. Illustrated with 44 colour plates, a frontispiece by Edouard Detaille and 266 black-and-white engravings. First leaf detached. Copy showing some wear.
