A seaworthy model of the Dutch deep-sea tugboat, made of wood and lacquered metal.
Displayed on a wooden plinth.
Manufactured in the late 20th century. Motorised.
Height: 46 cm. Length: 92 cm. (Some parts are broken; mechanical operation not guaranteed).
The Smit Rotterdam was launched in 1975. Upon entering service, it was considered the largest and most powerful in the world, measuring 75 metres in length and with 22,000 chevaux. It was designed to tow major offshore structures such as oil platforms, and to rescue ships in distress.
After 40 years of service, it was scrapped along with its sister ship, the Smit London, in 2013 and 2014.
