Description
Guy ROUXEL (1895–1970) St IVY An exceptional and significant solid wood sculpture, carved directly from the block and weathered, St Ivy features a model of St Ivy College in Pontivy: the work was commissioned by the diocese from the artist for the college’s inauguration in 1936. Vannes, 1935 Signed “G Rouxel”, located “Vannes” and dated “1935” on the base. Minor wear and wear to the patina Height 110 cm x Base 30 cm x 30 cm Guy Rouxel, a craftsman of great modesty, conscientious and honest. Equally at ease with stone as with wood, we owe to him the capitals and statues of the major seminary in Vannes, the spire of the Basilica of Notre-Dame du Roncier in Josselin, and almost all the figures of the Stations of the Cross in Callac.
