Description
Jean MAZUET (1908–1984) ‘SPLANN’ vase Polychrome glazed earthenware Keraluc Quimper factory, circa 1948–1950 Signed in enamel “Keraluc Quimper HL” on the reverse Height 26 cm x Length 22 cm Bibliography: Bernard-Jules Verlingue and Philippe Théallet, Encyclopédie des faïences de Quimper, Volume V, éd. de la Reinette, 2007. A similar model is reproduced on page 125. Born in Saint-Brieuc, Jean Mazuet trained in the studio of the sculptor Elie Le Goff. He enrolled at the École des Beaux-Arts in Rennes in 1924, then at the ENBA in Paris in 1928. He joined the Seiz Breur in 1934 and was notably awarded a medal of honour at the 1937 World’s Fair for the monumental column situated in front of the Brittany pavilion, which he sculpted with Marcel Le Louët.
