Originally from Guingamp, the sculptor and cabinetmaker Jacques Philippe set up his ‘Atelier d’Art Celtique’ on Rue Hoche
in Rennes and furnished the homes of prominent figures in Rennes and, more broadly, across Brittany. A member of the Société des artistes français, his style is similar to that of the Seiz Breur, with whom he is often associated. The Musée de Bretagne in Rennes and the Musée Breton in Quimper hold numerous pieces of furniture by Jacques Philippe.
