Description
Mahogany writing case, with mahogany veneer and brass trim. Fold-down side handles and an unengraved escutcheon on the lid. The lid opens to reveal a document holder in red morocco leather with gold embossing, featuring a small floral frieze and the days of the week, and reveals a gusseted compartment. The body unfolds onto a sloping flap lined with green felt, containing two compartments for inkwells, a pen holder and a stamp holder. The flap opens at the top to reveal a lockable compartment and at the bottom via a latch. Secret compartment with a broken mechanism. Minor damage and missing parts. Probably 19th-century England. Dimensions when closed: 19 x 50.5 x 27 cm
