A pair of oval-shaped miniature portraits depicting a couple, painted in gouache on elephant ivory, signed ‘Mie Bost’ in the bottom left-hand corner; one dated 1841 (Portrait of the man). Varnished wooden box frames with gilded brass mounts (attached). Distinguishing feature: A crack in the ivory of the portrait of the woman Overall dimensions: 17.2 x 15 cm – Total gross weight: 0.430 kg Pre-Convention: France, c. 1840 CIC No. FR2603300155-K EXPERT: Mr Pierre Grignon Dumoulin, court-appointed expert at the Amiens Court of Appeal, authorised representative for works of art made from materials derived from biodiversity. Specimen composed wholly or partly of proboscidean elephantidae ivory SPP (Elephas maximus, Loxodonta africana or Loxodonta cyclotis) listed in Appendix I/A of CITES/EU.
