Description
William GEFFROY (21st century) Bioluminescent squid Signed glass vial featuring a white drawn-glass squid, with sections of bioluminescent glass that react to UV light Illuminated base Flame-worked H. 43 cm – D. 10 cm Note: William Geffroy – Glass artist Originally from Brittany, William Geffroy draws inspiration from his passion for marine flora and fauna to create works of art using a blowtorch, glass rods and his creativity. Having qualified as a neon sign maker, he discovered glasswork whilst working in that field. After several years of honing his skills, he decided to launch his own creative studio in 2008. Each creation requires several hours of meticulous work. The artist shapes mainly marine-themed creations, which are housed in glass cylinders filled with demineralised water, echoing the animals preserved in formaldehyde in the old cabinets of curiosities and scientific collections. In 2020, William Geffroy was awarded the Deyrolle Naturalist Prize at the SNA, the Salon des Beaux-Arts, for his creations. The artist is a member of the Ateliers d’art de France. Beyond the artistic sphere, William Geffroy also collaborates with scientists in museums and aquariums. As such, his works serve as a bridge between the living world and art.
