Carved coconut mounted as a powder flask A very beautiful design depicting romantic scenes (a woman at a well, a woman playing the guitar, a love scene, a peasant scene with a cockerel) set against a background of acanthus leaves, foliage, trees and animals The guilloché-worked silver top features a stopper with a chain surmounted by a monkey The two holes in the coconut are filled with two almond-shaped mother-of-pearl eyes, creating a face English craftsmanship known as ‘convict’ or ‘pontoon’ work Late 18th century L. 20 cm (including stopper)
