Luc LANEL (1893–1965) for CHRISTOFLE for the CGT ‘Transat’ model created in 1935 for first class on the ocean liner Normandie (1935–1947) A truncated cone-shaped bucket with a smooth body bearing the CGT monogram (initials) of the Compagnie Générale Transatlantique Side handles in the shape of balls mounted on applied plates Silver-plated metal with hallmark and ‘CHRISTOFLE’ stamp France, 1935 H. 21 cm Note: Luc Lanel was head of electrotyping, then artistic director at Christofle. When the ocean liner Normandie was being designed, he was commissioned to create various designs for the ship, notably two series: ‘ondulation’ in 1933 and ‘transat’ in 1935. Alongside this work, he designed the new logo for the CGT, which remained in use until the 1960s. Many of Lanel’s designs were subsequently reissued.
