Description
Luc LANEL (1893–1965) for the first-class liner Normandie Christofle silver-plated bread basket, monogrammed ‘CGT’ Diameter 32 x 20 cm (side-to-side) Note: Luc Lanel was head of electroplating, then artistic director at Christofle. During the construction of the liner Normandie, he was commissioned to design various pieces for the ship, notably two series: ‘Ondulation’ in 1933 and ‘Transat’ in 1935. Alongside this work, he designed the new CGT logo, which remained in use until the 1960s. Many of Lanel’s designs were subsequently reissued.
