Cribbage board, or crib board, made from a piece of walrus tusk, decorated with a scene of a polar bear and a seal on the sea ice American work, 19th century L. 44 cm Note: Cribbage is an English card game invented in 1630. It quickly gained popularity and became the only legal card game in Great Britain and the colonies (particularly the American colonies). The game is played with a 52-card deck, and the aim is to reach 121 points. To keep score, a board is used, known as a cribbage board. It consists of two or three rows of 120 holes (arranged in rows of 90 holes) and a single hole (the ‘win’ hole).
