Bernard BUFFET (1928–1999) Poplars by the Canal, 1996 Original engraving, exceptionally enhanced with black pastel by the artist Signed in pencil Inscribed ‘Artist’s Proof /20’ On BFK Rives vellum, 76 x 58 cm INFORMATION: Bernard Buffet made several retouches in black pastel, notably in the lower section on the cypress tree to the left of the composition and along the canal, thereby emphasising certain lines. These modifications also appear on the numbered edition of this engraving. It can therefore be assumed that the Artist’s Proofs correspond to the first state of the engraving.
