Description
After Pablo Picasso (1881-1973).
"Picador".
White earthenware plate with black slip. Marked on the back Edition Picasso and stamped Madoura.
Diameter: 19 cm
In 1946, Pablo PICASSO discovered ceramics in Vallauris, at the Madoura workshop run by Suzanne and Georges Ramié. The artist, already recognised as a master of drawing, painting and sculpture, found a new field of experimentation in this medium. Plates, dishes and vases were no longer simply objects of use: they became surfaces for composition, where Picasso played with shapes, volumes, engobes and enamels. The theme of the picador belongs to the artist's Mediterranean imagination. Inherited from Spanish culture, the world of the bullfight runs through his work as a recurring motif, associated with movement, ritual and the tension between man and animal.
