Shepard FAIREY, an American artist with a background in street art and militant graphic design, made a name for himself in the late 1980s with his Obey Giant campaign, before gaining international recognition with the Hope poster he produced for Barack Obama in 2008. His work is based on a visual language that is instantly recognisable: flat colours, strong contrasts, repeated motifs and references to political and advertising imagery. With Liberté, Égalité, Fraternité à la Marianne, Fairey takes up one of the most recognisable symbols of the French Republic. Created in the context of the 2015 attacks, this image combines the figure of Marianne with a graphic vocabulary close to the committed poster.
