Description
Jacques Fréderic Antoine PAUTHE (1809–1889). ‘Behold the Lamb of God’. Ink and watercolour on paper, signed lower left. 33 cm × 25 cm This work was exhibited at the Maison Chappe Lautier Art Gallery in Toulouse, probably in 1895. Jacques Pauthe was a pupil of Léon Coignet, Paul Delaroche and Thomas Couture. He went on to become a painter of religious murals. He produced numerous works in the Tarn, Hérault and Roussillon regions. He was one of the most prolific religious artists of the 19th century; nearly 50 religious monuments in France were decorated by his hand.
