JAPAN - EDO period (1603-1868), 19th century
Inro and saya inro, the saya in kinji lacquer with taka maki-e decoration in red gold, silver and aogai lacquer of Enma-O, judge of the underworld, seated at a desk draped with a dragon-adorned veil, before which an oni kneels. On the reverse, an oni is seated in front of a mirror. The four-square inro is decorated in hira maki-e with gold, silver and red lacquer on a ro-iro background, depicting Parinirvana on one side and Buddhist paradise on the other. The interior in nashiji. Signed Kano Tan'yu hitsu Kansai saku (made by Kansai after Kano Tan'yu) (Minor chips).
