Description
A late 19th century Copenhagen monogrammed porcelain vase with a coat of arms Three waves mark in blue Baluster-shaped, with handles in the form of branches applied with ivy in relief, resting on a dome-shaped pedestal, with polychrome and gold decoration on one side of a view of a palace in a medallion framed with branches, surmounted by a coat of arms, the reverse decorated with the inscription C. T. L./von/Bülow. on a blue background in a rocaille cartouche framed by Danish flags and surmounted by a phylactery inscribed 1865-1886, the pedestal decorated with a frieze of ivy, minor wear. Height: 42.5 cm Provenance : Sale at Sotheby's, Paris, Une collection pour l'Histoire, Importants tableaux, dessins, meubles et souvenirs historiques appartenant à la famille de France, 29 September 2015, lot 67. Former collection of Prince Valdemar of Denmark (1858-1939) and his wife Marie d'Orléans (1865-1909). Notes: Originally from Mecklenburg in Germany, and of ancient extraction, the von Bülow family split into several branches according to the countries to which some of its members went. The coat of arms and decoration on this vase were probably made for a member of the Danish branch and probably represent one of their residences in Denmark.
