Description
CLAUDE FRANCOIS A painting entitled ‘Corner of a Small Market’ and signed by the Haitian painter Gervais Emmanuel Ducasse (1903–1988), purchased by the singer in April 1976 whilst on tour in the Greater Antilles, following a concert in Port-au-Prince. It depicts a scene from a colourful local market, which reminds him of the markets in Ismailia, Egypt, where he spent his childhood. On his return, Claude François had the painting – on canvas and mounted on hardboard – framed by his usual framer. The painting was then hung in his home in Dannemois. Dimensions: 80 x 59 cm. In fine condition.
