Pan offering Diana the fleece of a ewe
A tapestry panel from a series on the theme of the Metamorphoses, featuring foliage and large figures in fine woven wool and silk tapestry, depicting Pan being pushed aside by a lady-in-waiting whilst offering Diana a white fleece. Rising and transverse borders decorated with acanthus scrolls and volutes, punctuated by torches, quivers and shells, identical to those on a Beauvais tapestry held at the Metropolitan Museum: Boreas abducting Orithyia (no. 1977.435), woven during the same period after cartoons by René-Antoine Houasse (1645–1710).
Routine restoration work; some signs of wear; a pleat at the top that needs unpicking.
