Description
Balloon fan, c. 1900
Light-coloured tortoiseshell frame decorated with engraved and gilded rocaille scrolls. The silk gauze panel is painted with a Louis XVI-style design featuring a four-lobed cartouche with a musical trophy surrounded by flowers, mounted on cream-coloured muslin and embroidered with sequins. Some damage.
We are including two further damaged fans from the same period in need of restoration, one made of mother-of-pearl with a plume stamped with a monogram beneath a crown.
