Pair of painted officers’ beds with chiselled bronze, c. 1840 Resting on straight legs ending in castors, with the posts topped by gilded acanthus rosettes. Signed ‘Henry Ainé, Rue Poissonnière’ on a plaque. Oxidation and minor damage. H. 97 L. 207 P. 100 cm The Henry Ainé firm, based on Rue Poissonnière, won a silver medal in 1827 for the ingenuity of its extendable bed, for which it took out a patent.
