Description
The Knights of the Zodiac – Saint Seiya (聖闘士星矢) Aiolia of Leo Artwork created using graphite and coloured pencils, used in the production of the anime based on the work of Masami Kurumada (車田・正美) and Shingo Araki (荒木 伸吾). Produced by Toei Animation 1986–1989, Japan H24 L26.8 cm Aiolia is the first Gold Saint introduced in the series by Masami Kurumada — appearing as early as the handover of the Pegasus armour to Seiya. Guardian of the fifth house of the Zodiac, he is the character who most directly embodies the central tension of the Sanctuary arc: that of a righteous man constrained by a corrupt system. His elder brother, Aiolos of Sagittarius, was falsely accused of treason by Saga, disguised as the Grand Pope — and Aiolia has borne this dishonour for thirteen years. His confrontation with Seiya is one of the most emotionally charged moments of the arc. One of the series’ most beloved Gold Saints, and the first of his class to be revealed to the public.
