Description
The Knights of the Zodiac – Saint Seiya (聖闘士星矢) Shiryû the Dragon Artwork created using graphite and coloured pencils, used in the production of the anime based on the manga by Masami Kurumada (車田・正美) and Shingo Araki (荒木 伸吾). Produced by Toei Animation 1986–1989, Japan H24.5, L27 cm Shiryû is the Bronze Saint most closely associated with sacrifice in the series’ mythology: he loses his sight to win, bleeds to protect others, and dies several times. His relationship with the Dragon armour — the most durable of all, but consequently the hardest to wear — lies at the heart of his narrative arc. This standard-sized dôga from Toei’s TV production depicts one of the series’ most popular characters in Italy and France, where Shiryû has often been seen as the true moral hero of the work.
