Description
Saint Seiya (聖闘士星矢) Marina Thetis of the Siren Artwork executed in graphite and coloured pencils, used in the production of the anime based on the work of Masami Kurumada (車田・正美) - Shingo Araki (荒木 伸吾). Executed in ink and gouache. Produced by Toei Animation Poseidon Arc, 1988–1989, Japan H23 L27 cm Slightly creased Thetis of the Sea Siren is the only female character amongst Poseidon’s Marine Generals. Her role in the arc is ambiguous: as the lover of Julian Solo (Poseidon’s human form), she wavers between sincere devotion and loyalty to the god. Her armour — a mermaid-shaped breastplate, one of the most intricately designed pieces in the Poseidon arc — is one of the series’ graphical highlights. The description ‘slightly creased’ attests to this dôga having been used in production. A character from the TV series’ final arc, she is less frequently featured in collections than the Bronze Saints or the Gold Saints.
