Shurato is Tatsunoko’s answer to Toei and Sunrise: whilst *Saint Seiya* draws on Greek mythology and *The Samurai of Eternity* on Japanese tradition, *Shurato* builds its universe around Hindu mythology. Shurato Hidaka, a young martial arts champion transported to the celestial world of Tenkūkai, discovers there that he is the reincarnation of one of the eight Celestial Warriors of the goddess Vishnu. Lakshu — inspired by the goddess Lakshmi — is the first inhabitant of Tenkūkai he meets, and his bond with her forms the emotional backbone of the series. This cell depicts the two characters together — the hero and his companion — in a composition that directly conveys something about their relationship. As the series was rarely broadcast outside Japan, Shurato remains little known in the Western market, making its production materials particularly rare.
