Description
Kingdom (キングダム) Kan Ki Two corrections to the genga, made in graphite and coloured pencils on yellow paper for the production of the anime *Kingdom*, based on the work of Yasuhisa Hara (原 泰久). Accompanied by two prints on white paper. Produced by Pierrot and Studio Signpost 2012–present, Japan H21.5 L29.8 cm Kan Ki is one of the most fascinating and ambiguous generals in Kingdom — a former highwayman who became a general in the Qin army, whose methods (deliberate cruelty, psychological terror) stand in stark contrast to the military code of honour upheld by the other generals. His presence in the Qin army speaks volumes about the nature of Ei Sei’s unification project: to build an empire, one must rely on imperfect instruments. His dôga, through this moral contrast, is one of the most narratively charged in the Kingdom series.
