Kingdom (キングダム) Yang Duan He Graphite and coloured pencil animation keyframes created for the production of the anime Kingdom, based on the work of Yasuhisa Hara (原 泰久). Produced by Pierrot and Studio Signpost 2012–present, Japan H21 L29.5 cm Yang Duan He is the leader of the Mountain Staff tribe — one of Ri Shin’s allied forces in the military campaigns of Kingdom. A female warlord whose alliance with the Qin army forms a narrative arc in its own right. Her inclusion in this exhibition highlights the diversity of the portraits Kingdom offers of its combatants — extending far beyond the main generals and strategists.
