Produced by Studio Satelight and Production I.G 2000, Japan H26 L23 cm Sakura Wars is a hybrid franchise combining video games, manga and animation, launched by Sega in 1996 — one of the most accomplished examples of what the literature on samurai in popular culture refers to as the cross-genre nature of Japanese productions. Sakura Shinguji is the main protagonist: heir to a family of demon fighters, she pilots a steam-powered mecha called Koubu whilst performing in an imperial theatre troupe in Tokyo in the 1920s.
