Description
One Piece (ワンピース) Tony Tony Chopper A pencil and coloured pencil key animation used in the production of the One Piece anime, based on the work of Eiichirō Oda (尾田 栄一郎). Produced by Toei Animation 1999–present, Japan H23 L34.5 cm This dôga depicts Chopper in his Heavy Point form — a muscular humanoid transformation with a well-developed physique and imposing stance — dressed in samurai armour from the Wano arc, framed from a low-angle shot on a sloping diagonal axis. Heavy Point is Chopper’s direct combat form: a massive body, powerful arms, and a stature approaching that of an adult man. This form is visually the furthest removed from the miniature Chopper that the audience immediately associates with the character — and it is precisely this contrast that this dôga exploits. Dressed as a samurai, in Heavy Point form, seen from below at a diagonal angle: Chopper is no longer the comical and endearing character that his usual form suggests. He is a fighter. The low-angle shot amplifies the physical mass of the Heavy Point by playing on the upward perspective — the already imposing body of this form is further magnified by the low vantage point. The sloping diagonal of the shot adds kinetic tension: the character does not fall into the frame, but occupies it at an angle, like a threat approaching from the side. H26 L23 cm In the Wano arc, Chopper in Heavy Point form features particularly prominently in the medical combat sequences — notably during the assault on Onigashima, where he faces off against Queen to protect those suffering from Monstriflu.
