Ninja Kabuto & His Magic Singing Sword (Karasu Tengu Kabuto Kabuto Hand-painted celluloid sheet used in the production of the anime Ninja Kabuto & His Magic Singing Sword, based on the work of Buichi Terasawa (寺沢 武). Executed in ink and gouache on an original gouache background. Produced by Toei Animation 1990, Japan H26 L23 cm Ninja Kabuto is a series by Buichi Terasawa — the same author as Space Adventure Cobra (lots 131–132). Terasawa is a leading figure in 1980s–1990s action manga, known for his highly detailed designs and worlds blending science fiction and fantasy. This cell on an original gouache-painted background depicts Kabuto, the ninja protagonist, in a scene whose hand-painted backdrop constitutes a second production document in its own right. A series little known outside Japan, this piece from the 1990 Toei production is amongst the rarest in the lot.
